The Organization

Precision Combustion, Inc. ("PCI") is an innovative, growing energy technology company developing, manufacturing, and marketing catalytic devices and systems for clean and efficient combustion, reaction, and emissions control. Our products enable more efficient and cleaner energy conversion and production. We are primarily a development stage business, developing high value-added technologies in the areas of catalytic combustion and Microlith® short contact time catalysts, and are positioned for commercial success through a combination of government R&D contracts and strategic alliances with leading U.S. manufacturers. Revenues are from U.S. government research and development contracts, industrial R&D contracts, and component sales. Primary products under development include:

• an ultra-low NOx catalytic combustor for gas turbines,
• a downhole catalytic combustor/steam generator for heavy oil production,
• ultra-compact efficient catalytic components and systems for fuel processing and specialty burners for compact power systems.

Our customers are primarily the U.S. government, major U.S. engine and component manufacturers, smaller businesses with leading technology positions, and oil companies.

Our customers come to us because of our unique capabilities, their positive experience with us, and our reputation. A small, high-caliber team of administrative and technical professionals, our staff of 29 includes 8 PhDs, substantial experience, and a range of skills including catalysis, coatings, materials, modeling and combustor development. We’re a flexible, results-oriented organization with smart, energetic people seeking to achieve excellence.

Current Openings

Senior Chemical Technician:

This position requires a person who is able to work independently with minimal supervision. The technician/engineer who is hired will be given a series of test matrices for the development of catalyst materials.  Information garnered from these test matrices will also be used for all PCI projects.  These tasks will define processing parameters for a commercially viable product.  This person will be expected to execute all phases of the sample preparation test matrix including catalyst and support formulation, substrate preparation, coating application, microscopic inspection and, BET analysis.  In addition, this person will be responsible for gathering and summarizing all pertinent test data (including activity test data of samples that are carried through to that level of testing) for presentation to senior research staff.  This person will also be expected to assist with small-scale production for PCI products and prototypes, maintain a laboratory notebook and take part in daily laboratory maintenance.

The position requires a BS in chemistry or chemical engineering or an AS with experience in an industrial lab setting.  This person should have strong organizational skills as they will be evaluating several test matrices at a time, and good hands-on and problem solving skills and mechanical aptitude.  Requisite skills include the basic chemistry knowledge with the ability to produce samples given target mole percent, weight percent, or molar ratios.  In addition, the successful candidate will be familiar with Microsoft Word and Excel.  Initially, this person will be conducting directed research but the ability to think independently will allow further growth into independent research.  Therefore, the ability to read and understand technical literature would be helpful.  Good oral communication skills and the ability to work in a team environment are necessary.

Burner Development Engineer

We are in the process of hiring engineer(s) with analytical and experimental combustion knowledge to add to our combustion technology and burner development efforts. Successful candidate will support projects from conceptual design through prototype build and test.  Test experience is a must.  Ideal candidate will be a practical self-starter with test experience for fuel injection, burner design, or gas turbine combustion products and have hands-on prototype combustor development experience. A Masters Degree in mechanical or chemical engineering or Bachelors Degree with four years related experience is required.

Senior Combustion Engineer

We are seeking an experienced combustion engineer with a strong theoretical background and demonstrated expertise in the development and commercialization of both novel and practical gas turbine combustion systems. Solid mastery of thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, chemical kinetics and heat and mass transfer is a must. Expertise in catalysis, reaction engineering and computational modeling is also desired.

We are primarily interested in hiring a qualified individual focused on product development in support of commercialization. Candidates for this position should also possess excellent leadership, interpersonal and program management skills and be highly motivated to succeed. A graduate degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering and/or the Physical Sciences is required.
