Precision Combustion, Inc. (PCI) is looking to hire an experienced laboratory manager to join our rapidly growing clean energy technology company. You will have the opportunity to be a hands-on, high value member of our coatings group, managing overall operations and quality control for our coatings laboratory, as well as helping to develop and commercialize new and existing catalyst, molecular sieve and sorbent coating technologies. In addition, the successful candidate will be a contributor to advancing PCI’s technologies into new fields, either in a support role or as a principal investigator.

This position requires solid communication, management, and laboratory skills. Candidates should have prior experience working in a wet chemistry laboratory as well as direct experience in laboratory management. The person in this position will work closely with many levels in the company to ensure the smooth operation of the coatings laboratory and position the laboratory for higher volume material processing capabilities. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in working with heterogeneous catalysts, sorbents, molecular sieves, carbons or related industrial materials.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and improve upon existing quality standards for in-house coatings processes
  • New process development as it pertains to new materials/coatings methods
  • Maintain laboratory; ensure that the laboratory is clean, well-stocked, and all equipment is in good working order.
  • Manage a team of laboratory technicians
  • Ensure health and safety of employees working in the laboratory and act as a leader in the company safety organization.
  • Collect, analyze and manage all data related to coatings work
  • Identify and implement ways to enhance the data collection and management system
  • Interface with members of the technical team to manage laboratory workflow
  • Various wet chemistry responsibilities including slurry formulation, base material handling, and involvement in all steps of the coating process.
  • Write SOPs and train laboratory staff on these SOPs
  • Design and modify hardware and related process control equipment

Desired Skills and Experience:

  • 3-5 years’ direct experience in a laboratory manager role
  • Minimum BS in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or related field with 7-10 years’ overall experience. Higher degrees desirable, as is experience in new fields such as nanotechnology and metal-organic frameworks (MOFs).
  • Familiarity with various coating processes and catalyst applications
  • Knowledge of pilot-scale production or hands-on experience with pilot-scale chemical manufacturing and processing hardware
  • Experience with process design/control and quality systems. ISO 9000 experience a strong plus.
  • Experience using materials analysis instrumentation such as GC, SEM, TGA and BET
  • Experience creating and implementing data collection/processing systems in a laboratory environment a plus
