Utility Engine Catalytic Converters

PCI catalytic converter/muffler technologies offer a potential low cost solution for reducing emissions from small, two and four stroke utility engines. Gasoline-fueled utility engines such as lawn mowers, handheld gardening equipment and small generator sets release substantial amounts of unburned hydrocarbons and carbon monoxide into the air, posing both an air pollution problem to the community and a health hazard to the user. EPA-sponsored tests on a 4-stroke engine provided by Briggs & Stratton at the University of Michigan achieved high conversion effectiveness, achieving results sufficient to meeting CARB Stage II standards.
