Job Description

PCI is looking to add a hands-on engineer/chemist with strong fundamentals, passion and a desire to learn and grow in your field. This laboratory-based position will fulfill a critical role in our catalyst/coatings operations, and will provide the successful candidate with hands-on exposure to product development as well as an opportunity to interact with all aspects of a small business.

This position requires someone who is able to work independently with minimal supervision. The successful candidate will be involved with development and testing of catalyst materials and processes. Information developed will be crucial to defining commercially viable products and processes. The person in this position will be involved with all phases of catalyst sample preparation, including catalyst and support formulation, substrate preparation, coating application, and product QA/QC.  This person will be responsible for gathering and summarizing all pertinent catalyst characterization and activity test data for analysis and presentation to senior research staff. This person will also assist with small-scale production for PCI products and prototypes in a well-documented environment.

Required Skills/Experience:

  • BS in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering with 0 – 3 years’ industry experience
  • Experience in a hands-on chemical/chemical engineering lab environment (especially with explosive gas mixtures—methane/air/CO/H2)
  • Materials/catalyst lab-scale synthesis knowledge
  • Familiarity with operating heterogeneous catalytic reactors up to 1000°C
  • Experience/knowledge with LABVIEW, ASPEN/CHEMCAD, FLUENT/COMSOL software
  • Experience with GC /TGA
  • Experience with lab-scale instrumentation, primarily temperature, pressure, and flow control
  • Ability to think independently to allow further growth into independent research 
  • Ability and interest in keeping informed with technical literature 
  • Good oral communication skills and ability to work in a team environment to accomplish program goals, as well as working independently to accomplish assigned tasks to meet the target deadlines
  • Working command of MS Office (Word, Excel)
