Job Description

PCI is looking to hire a self-motivated, growth-oriented System Test Engineer who will play a critical role in improving and troubleshooting our innovative energy solutions.  We are looking for an exceptional engineer with strong fundamentals, passion, creativity, and the ability to work on multiple projects.

The ideal candidate will enjoy hands-on R&D, have excellent troubleshooting skills, have a strong interest in the clean energy industry, be able to work independently with limited supervision, and be willing to go above and beyond to meet program objectives.  This is an excellent growth opportunity for an engineer looking to develop their skills and become a key contributor working towards important solutions in the clean energy field.

 Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform component and system level testing including
  • Chemical (e.g., chemical reactions, fuel reforming, burner, sorption)
  • Electrical (e.g., fuel cells, electrical circuitry, electronics boards, control hardware)
  • Support test rig set-up, including system integration.
  • Develop, evaluate, and validate thermal management systems.
  • Develop fuel cell operational and controls strategies and perform fuel cell related calculations (power, heat, flow, system efficiency).
  • Troubleshoot hardware (pumps, sensors, controllers, etc.) & control software, including identification and resolution of test set-up, test protocols, and/or system and component related issues.
  • Control logic development and debugging (CAN, LabVIEW, etc.).
  • Perform data analysis (electrical, fluid, mechanical, and thermal systems), identifying system risks and improvements, and root cause and failure analysis at the component and systems level.
  • Ensure that test issues are well documented and resolved in a timely manner.
  • Support packaging concepts and system architecture development of fuel cell systems.
  • Identify and develop innovative ideas into practical working systems and procedures within time and budget constraints.
  • Provide timely and accurate test reports as appropriate and requested.
  • Support on-site / off-site commissioning activities.

  • BS/MS in Chemical, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering with 3+ years of relevant industry experience, preferably in aerospace, automotive, or battery/fuel cell system integration.
  • Strong understanding of thermodynamics, heat transfer, and fluid flow.
  • Proven mechanical, electrical, and hardware troubleshooting skills and experience.
  • Hands-on experience in an engineering lab environment with excellent problem-solving skills and high level of analytical ability.
  • Ability to work in a team environment to accomplish program goals as well as work independently to accomplish individual tasks; this position requires strong interaction in a multi-functional team environment, particularly in high-pressure situations.
  • Experience with fuel cell or electrification products.
  • Knowledge of fuel cell systems (knowledge of batteries and power electronics a plus)
  • Experience with environmental testing (shock, vibration).
  • Demonstrated ability to develop creative solutions to meet cost and functional requirements.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Good organizational skills and the ability to work to a deadline is a must to be successful in this position.
