Technical Marketing Intern - Green Technologies, Summer 2022

Job Description

PCI is looking for an intern to join the team of dedicated professionals in our fast-growing green-energy company! We have an internship or co-op opportunity for a business student with a technical background (or a business-focused engineering/science student) to support marketing and business development for a new energy innovation.

We’re looking for a tech-savvy individual with solid business skills, high quality work, and excellent research skills.  You will be supporting techno-economic analyses and facilitating development of tech-to-market plans for a carbon neutral power generation and greenhouse gas reduction initiative.  This is a career-building opportunity to learn and grow while gaining an understanding of new technology development in the clean energy industry!

Responsibilities:

  • Help create a compelling business case for our new technology via market research, competitive analysis, licensing research (potential models and partners), patent searches, identification of regulatory requirements, supply chain analysis, and cost analysis.
  • Write up and present results in a professional, industry-standard format

Desired Skills and Experience:

  • BS in Engineering or Sciences with business training. Enrollment in an MBA program or coursework in an MBA program highly desirable.
  • Ability to analytically review data to identify and support promising strategies.
  • High level of proficiency with MS Excel
  • Excellent writing/presentation skills

The Opportunity

Your work here will be important to our success. We are looking for an experienced and innovative HR Generalist with strong recruitment experience to partner with our HR Manager in building an ever-stronger R&D organization. Note that this is a Part-Time position of approximately 24 hours per week. You should bring an extraordinarily strong background in recruitment of STEM professionals: finding, hiring and onboarding high capability new team members is key to our success. As our company is growing and evolving, our HR vision is also transforming. As an integral part of evolving the HR function, this role will allow you to bring your experience, ideas, and energy to the table as a true collaborator. This role is very hands on, with both strategic and tactical duties, and will require the HR Generalist/Recruiter to have the agility to move between tasks with ease and efficiency.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Recruit: You will take the lead in full-cycle recruitment for highly specialized roles within the R&D environment, including hiring talent from experienced and newly graduated PhD-level Engineers and Scientists to consultants with unique skills through entry-level interns.
  • Develop: You will develop enhanced recruitment strategies, improved processes and workflows, build upon and create new policies and procedures, and more
  • Grow: You will build and foster strong relationships with your peers, our managers, candidates, new hires, recruitment partners, and grow your overall capabilities.

Qualifications:

  • BS or higher Degree in human resources, business, or other related field and 3-5 years’ experience. PHR/SPHR is a plus. A STEM degree with 3-5 years HR experience would be also plus.
  • Strong recruitment background using innovative ways to find and attract talent, specifically for an engineering-focused/R&D organization is a super plus
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and effectively manage in a changing environment

Job Description

Precision Combustion, Inc. (PCI) is looking to hire an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to join our rapidly growing clean energy technology company. In this position you will play a critical role in improving and troubleshooting innovative technology that changes the way energy works in the world. We are looking for an exceptional engineer with strong fundamentals, passion, creativity, and the ability to work on multiple projects.

This position requires demonstrated innovation as well as design and drafting knowledge to support projects from conceptual design through prototype construction and testing. This role requires close interaction with other engineering team members and the tenacity to succeed. The ideal candidate should be self-motivated and willing to learn and adapt within a fast-paced organization.

Responsibilities include:

  • Create new system designs and/or modify existing system designs with a focus upon lower cost, improved manufacturability, increased product performance, and higher overall product quality.
  • Work with systems, mechanical, chemical and electrical engineering teams to define integration requirements for a wide variety of system components.
  • Specify system components or direct product modification for conformance with engineering design and performance specifications.

Required Skills/Experience:

  • BS in Mechanical Engineering with 3-5 years’ experience required; MSME a plus. Willing to consider ChemE with a strong design background.
  • Strong CAD modeling skills (SolidWorks preferred)
  • Working knowledge of drafting practices and manufacturing methods
  • Experience with combustion and high temperature materials preferred

System Test Engineer

Job Description

PCI is looking to hire a self-motivated, growth-oriented System Test Engineer who will play a critical role in improving and troubleshooting our innovative energy solutions.  We are looking for an exceptional engineer with strong fundamentals, passion, creativity, and the ability to work on multiple projects.

The ideal candidate will enjoy hands-on R&D, have excellent troubleshooting skills, have a strong interest in the clean energy industry, be able to work independently with limited supervision, and be willing to go above and beyond to meet program objectives.  This is an excellent growth opportunity for an engineer looking to develop their skills and become a key contributor working towards important solutions in the clean energy field. 

 Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform component and system level testing including
  • Chemical (e.g., chemical reactions, fuel reforming, burner, sorption)
  • Electrical (e.g., fuel cells, electrical circuitry, electronics boards, control hardware)
  • Support test rig set-up, including system integration.
  • Develop, evaluate, and validate thermal management systems.
  • Develop fuel cell operational and controls strategies and perform fuel cell related calculations (power, heat, flow, system efficiency).
  • Troubleshoot hardware (pumps, sensors, controllers, etc.) & control software, including identification and resolution of test set-up, test protocols, and/or system and component related issues.
  • Control logic development and debugging (CAN, LabVIEW, etc.).
  • Perform data analysis (electrical, fluid, mechanical, and thermal systems), identifying system risks and improvements, and root cause and failure analysis at the component and systems level.
  • Ensure that test issues are well documented and resolved in a timely manner.
  • Support packaging concepts and system architecture development of fuel cell systems.
  • Identify and develop innovative ideas into practical working systems and procedures within time and budget constraints.
  • Provide timely and accurate test reports as appropriate and requested.
  • Support on-site / off-site commissioning activities.
  • Assist with small-scale production of PCI products and prototypes in a well-documented environment.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Experience/Qualifications:

  • BS/MS in Chemical, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering with 3+ years of relevant industry experience, preferably in aerospace, automotive, or battery/fuel cell system integration.
  • Strong understanding of thermodynamics, heat transfer, and fluid flow.
  • Proven mechanical, electrical, and hardware troubleshooting skills and experience.
  • Hands-on experience in an engineering lab environment with excellent problem-solving skills and high level of analytical ability.
  • Ability to work in a team environment to accomplish program goals as well as work independently to accomplish individual tasks; this position requires strong interaction in a multi-functional team environment, particularly in high-pressure situations.
  • Experience with fuel cell or electrification products.
  • Knowledge of fuel cell systems (knowledge of batteries and power electronics a plus)
  • Experience with environmental testing (shock, vibration).
  • Demonstrated ability to develop creative solutions to meet cost and functional requirements.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Good organizational skills and the ability to work to a deadline is a must to be successful in this position.
  • Working command of MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project).
  • Ability to travel as required for offsite testing/commissioning.

Chemical Engineer

Job Description

PCI is looking to add a hands-on engineer/chemist with strong fundamentals, passion and a desire to learn and grow in your field. This laboratory-based position will fulfill a critical role in our catalyst/coatings operations, and will provide the successful candidate with hands-on exposure to product development as well as an opportunity to interact with all aspects of a small business.

This position requires someone who is able to work independently with minimal supervision. The successful candidate will be involved with development and testing of catalyst materials and processes. Information developed will be crucial to defining commercially viable products and processes. The person in this position will be involved with all phases of catalyst sample preparation, including catalyst and support formulation, substrate preparation, coating application, and product QA/QC.  This person will be responsible for gathering and summarizing all pertinent catalyst characterization and activity test data for analysis and presentation to senior research staff. This person will also assist with small-scale production for PCI products and prototypes in a well-documented environment.

Required Skills/Experience:

  • BS in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering with 0 – 3 years’ industry experience
  • Experience in a hands-on chemical/chemical engineering lab environment (especially with explosive gas mixtures—methane/air/CO/H2)
  • Materials/catalyst lab-scale synthesis knowledge
  • Familiarity with operating heterogeneous catalytic reactors up to 1000°C
  • Experience/knowledge with LABVIEW, ASPEN/CHEMCAD, FLUENT/COMSOL software
  • Experience with GC /TGA
  • Experience with lab-scale instrumentation, primarily temperature, pressure, and flow control
  • Ability to think independently to allow further growth into independent research 
  • Ability and interest in keeping informed with technical literature 
  • Good oral communication skills and ability to work in a team environment to accomplish program goals, as well as working independently to accomplish assigned tasks to meet the target deadlines
  • Working command of MS Office (Word, Excel)
